In 1992, Virginia Burke, owner of Burke International was introduced to Dr. Annique Theron who was in the U. S. to promote her South African Company. .
The Company was founded in 1971 by Dr. Theron who had discovered the unique qualities of a native plant, Aspalathus linearis. Until her discovery, the only commercial value of the plant had been to make an herbal brew, commonly referred to as "red tea", "red bush tea", and "rooibos" as well as many other names for the brew. Dr. Theron's independent study had proven the plant was rich in minerals and anti-oxidants which were not only suitable for internal use, but ideal for topical products. Dr. Theron patented an extract of the plant and developed a range of skin care products suitable for sensitive and allergic skin. Today there are skin care products for men, women and children as well as a complete vitamin line containing the extract.

Dr. Annique Theron is a walking advertisement for her skincare products and definitely has the right attitude about life. She travels all over the world promoting the benefits of this native South African plant. Her original discovery has led to extensive scientific research worldwide that has not only confirmed her independent studies but, the benefits have been proven to be greater than initially believed to be.
Dr. Theron and Burke Internation promoted the Herbal Tea under the Brand Name "ROOIBOS". Rooibos is an Afrikaans word when translated to English means "red bush". As the product was unknown to the U.
